Information for your visit to Cornell

Monday, March 24th, In-Person Visit and Information Session
For the in-person visit on Monday, March 24th, you can arrive on Sunday, March 23rd, and attend the events all day Monday or attend the online information session (same as in-person). Check-out will be on Tuesday, March 25th. The schedule for the in-person visit is as follows:
9:00 -11:30 am - Information Session (In-person and Online)

9:05 am - 9:45 am - Overview of Statistics Field by Yang Ning
9:45 am - 11:00 am - Meeting with Field Faculty
11:00 am - 11:45 am - Meeting with PhD students
11:45 am - 12:45 pm - Lunch with PhD students
1 - 3 pm - Campus Tour with PhD students
3 - 5 pm - Sit in on a class or schedule time with faculty
5 - 8 pm - Dinner with PhD students

Booking Your Travel to Ithaca
The Department of Statistical Science is prepared to cover up to $600 for your travel expenses plus the cost of two nights at a local Ithaca hotel. These rooms will be shared with another visiting student, and we can set up our direct billing to your room. You could arrive Sunday, March 23rd, and attend the events all day Monday, March 24th. Check-out will be on Tuesday, March 25th. Please refer to the “Getting to Ithaca”, book your travel to Ithaca sections below.
Once you have booked your travel to Ithaca, if you are arriving at Ithaca airport or the bus terminal, please call the hotel in advance to reserve the shuttle to bring you to the hotel. We can reserve the shuttle to bring you to and from Cornell. To get around Ithaca otherwise, you are encouraged to reserve the shuttle in advance if you know what times you need to be somewhere. Uber and Lyft are also options.
Please save all receipts – flight / rental car bookings, ground transportation to/from airport, local transportation e.g. taxi/buses in Ithaca – for reimbursement after visit day. Planning Your Visit
When you arrive we can schedule meetings with faculty and other Ph.D., students.
In the evenings our current Ph.D. students could take you out for dinner on any of the dates you are able to attend.
Since we will be providing meals during your visit, please let Allen Ward know if you have any dietary restrictions.
During your visit you should also if you have time:
· Take a walking tour of Cornell
· Sit in on a class
· Check out the Cornell dining facilities
· Tour the natural areas maintained by Cornell Plantations
· Visit the Lab of Ornithology
· Visit the Johnson Museum of Art or the Cornell Store
· Spend some time in Collegetown and in the Ithaca area
Getting to Ithaca
Cornell's Ithaca campus is located in central New York. There are many ways to get here:
By air
The Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport (ITH) is a 10-minute drive from Cornell and downtown areas. Ithaca is serviced by Delta, Continental, US Airways, and United. Once you arrive, a local taxi service or TCAT bus can bring you to the hotel, however, we encourage you to reserve the hotel shuttle in advance to bring you to the hotel or use Uber.
Uber and Lyft can also be used in the Ithaca area.
From other regional airports:
· Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR), Syracuse, NY: 90 minutes
Transportation to Ithaca from the Syracuse airport is available from Cornell Bus Service during certain times of the year and from Ithaca Airline Limousine.
We do have a bus service called Ourbus that goes from the Syracuse airport to Ithaca and from Ithaca to the Syracuse airport
· Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC), Rochester, NY: 2 hours
· Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM), Binghamton, NY: 85 minutes
· Elmira-Corning Regional Airport (ELM), Horseheads, NY: 1 hour
· John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York City: 4 hours, 30 minutes
· LaGuardia Airport (LGA), New York City: 4 hours, 20 minutes
· Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Newark, NJ: 4 hours
By bus
The Ithaca bus terminal is located in downtown Ithaca at the corner of W. State Street and N. Fulton Street. The terminal is serviced by Greyhound, Shortline, New York Trailways, and Swarthout Coaches. If you are coming from NYC, we recommend the Cornell C2C bus. Other bus options from NYC include Shortline.

By train
The nearest Amtrak station is in Syracuse, NY, about 90 minutes from Ithaca. Syracuse is connected to the Empire (NYC–Niagara Falls), Lake Shore Limited (Chicago–Boston), and Maple Leaf (NYC–Toronto) lines.
Transportation to Ithaca from the Syracuse Amtrak station is available from Cornell Bus Service during certain times of the year and from Ithaca Airline Limousine.
By car
If you're driving, Cornell is approximately:
· 2.5 hours from Albany, New York
· 5 hours from New York City
· 5 hours from Cleveland, Ohio
· 3 hours from Buffalo, New York

Getting Around Ithaca and Cornell
TCAT buses serve as Cornell's primary form of on-campus transportation and also service the larger Ithaca area.
You can also try to reserve the hotel shuttle in advance if you know what times you need to be somewhere.

Parking at Cornell
It may take you some extra time to get directions and find parking. Allow a minimum of 30–45 minutes to park and make your way to your destination.
Weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Stop at a Cornell Parking Information Booth to receive a complimentary parking permit and directions to appropriate parking areas.

Evenings and weekends
Information booths are not staffed during this time. Free parking is available in some Cornell parking lots after 5 p.m. on weekdays and throughout the weekend. Read posted signs carefully to be sure lots are not permit-restricted during the time of your visit.
