The Department of Statistics and Data Science’s annual Celebration and Data Science conference is back!
After a three-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the department’s Celebration of Statistics and Data Science returns for its sixth iteration at 8:30 a.m. Friday, September 8, in the Statler Hotel in the J. Willard Marriott Executive Education Center on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, NY. Registration is now open to members of the Cornell community, but seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The day-long event will feature talks from seven field scholars, including Karen Bandeen-Roche MS '88, Ph.D. '90, the Hurley-Dorrier Professor and Chair of the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Alumni award. The schedule also includes a poster session and dinner.
“The event is an opportunity to both celebrate Cornell’s deep, rich history as a focal point for groundbreaking statistics research and to hear the latest breakthroughs and insights from field leaders from around the world,” said David Ruppert, the Andrew Schultz Jr. Professor of Engineering in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering, professor of statistics and data science, and the celebration’s faculty lead. “We’re especially thrilled to welcome back several Cornell statistics alumni who’ll present at this year’s event.”
Along with Bandeen-Roche, who will give the keynote talk, other speakers include: Ciprian Crainiceanu MS '02 Ph.D. '03 of Johns Hopkins University; Irina Gaynanova MS '13 Ph.D. '15 of Texas A&M University; Xihong Lin of Harvard University; Geert Molenberghs of the Universiteit Hasselt & KU Leuven; Rob Strawderman of the University of Rochester, and Lance Waller MS '90 Ph.D. '92 of Emory University.
This event is in-person only and will not include a virtual attendance option. More details can be found on the Department of Statistics and Data Science website.
